The Variance of Bar Supplies
Anyone who works or has previously worked behind a bar will know just how many different pieces of bar supplies there really are that are used on a daily basis. From optional extras such as champagne buckets to essentials like spirit dispensers, the range of items used every day by bartenders across the country is very diverse. With a lot of bar supplies, you wouldn't necessarily even think about them to be used, let alone the amount of varieties of one product there are.
Take the simple bar pourer, for example. With one design, there are up to five colour options to choose from (if not more), as well as the capacity of the pourer itself. Or how about ice buckets - there are at least four different designs, depending on whether tongs are desired or not, or if you want one that is plastic or chrome. Even the average cocktail shaker has more than one design, with varying capacities and colours.
A lot of bar supplies are used in both bars and also in restaurant areas of the same building (if there is one). Rubber drip mats, for example, are commonly seen anywhere that drinks may be poured, as they prevent damages that may be caused by liquid accidentally touching a surface such as wood. Bill spikes are also used in eating areas, as it is very important that bills and receipts are kept track of for financial purposes. In areas where a bar and eating area are combined, bar supplies such as condiment dispensers are used to keep the place neat and tidy.
Some bar supplies are undoubtedly more useful than others, and some are just used for decoration and to make the bar in question look modern and smart. Glass rimmers, for example, are used to decorate the edge of wine glasses with either sugar or salt to create a sparkly ring around the top, which gives a frosted effect.
Bar supplies that help to control hygiene and cleanliness in a bar are among the most important of products that bartenders use. It is not unusual to see a barman polishing glasses with a clean cloth, but it is important to use additional items to ensure equipment is kept clean. Glass scrubbers, for example, are essential products - made with nylon bristles, they have suction pads that help them to stick to surfaces such as sinks and worktops. At 180mm long, they are ideal for cleaning all types of glasses, including flutes.
Products in the bar supplies section also include items that are provided for the entertainment of the customers. Darts is a popular game in a lot of pubs, with people forming their own local teams and having friendly competitions, and therefore pub owners will want to ensure they have a dart board and equipment available in case patrons should want to play. Having a team in the pub will mean more money is spent on food and drink, so having items such as a dartboard cabinet and flights, as well as the dartboard and darts themselves, will help the owners to bring money into the pub.
