A Deeper Look into Bar Equipment

Anyone who owns and/or runs a bar or pub will know firsthand how important it is to have good quality and durable bar equipment; with the amount of people who visit such places, especially at the weekends, it is important that nothing breaks down or goes wrong. Faulty bar equipment could cost money, both to fix it and with loss of sales, so the best thing to do is buy the best bar supplies in the first place.

There are many components that make up the term ' bar equipment ' - depending on the size of the bar and the location of it will depend on what types of bar equipment are purchased per venue. A big bar, especially one in a place like a hotel, may have items such as a bar aide or a bar centre; these are great for holding multiple pieces of bar equipment at once. A big and busy bar will need more than one of the essential items, such as pourers, ice scoops and bartenders' blades, so a container to store all of these and move them around with ease will are always helpful.

Looking a bit deeper into individual items of bar equipment, let's start with the simple bar pourer. Available in varying colours including green and red, these are used for measuring shots of alcoholic into glasses ready for the mixer of choice to be added afterwards. Commonly, these hold one litre of liquid at any one time. Another basic item in the bar equipment arsenal is an ice scoop - many people prefer their drinks with ice to keep them cool, so using a scoop to put the ice in the glass is more hygienic and prevents people putting their hands near the ice. A bartenders blade is another term for a bottle opener - anyone who works behind a bar will know how handy one of these is. Some bars become very busy at times, and speed is of the essence, so struggling to open bottles is not an option.

Of course, it's not only items that help out the bar staff that should be mentioned - it's very important to keep the place neat and tidy in all areas. For example, the actual bar itself is usually home to the drinks bought by those seated nearby, so it should be kept clean and free from spillages - unfortunately, these sometimes happen, so protective rubber bar mats need to be in place to prevent the surfaces from staying wet and becoming stained. The shelving and units behind the bar also need to be kept to national hygiene and cleanliness standards, so liners for the shelves are great to use as they are disposable and can be replaced when they become soiled.

There are many more items of bar equipment that are used every day, and it is important that every piece is kept safe and cleaned very regularly. There are too many health risks involved with unhygienic equipment to take the chance, so bar owners need to be especially aware of how well their staff perform the cleaning tasks at all times!
