How To Calculate Profit With Coffee Syrups and Cocktail Purees
Working out the profit you’ll make on your coffee syrups, cocktail syrups and cocktail purees is achieved in three stages.
Firstly, you need to divide the total capacity of your syrup or puree (in ml) by the amount you’re going to be using in each serving (in ml). This gives you the number of servings you’ll get from each bottle or pouch.
Then, divide the total number of servings by the amount you’re planning to charge or add on to the total cost of your drink. This is the return each syrup or puree will give you.
Finally, subtract the cost of the bottle or pouch from the return to work out your total profit.

Costing Example
Using this formula, you can see just how easy it is to calculate the profit you’ll make on your syrups and purees.
You have a one-litre (1000ml) bottle of Monin syrup and use 2 x 10ml pumps of syrup per serving. This gives you 50 servings from every one-litre bottle.
You charge your customers 50p per 20ml serving of syrup. This gives you a £25 return for every one-litre bottle.
If this one-litre bottle of syrup costs you £11.99, you will make a profit of £13.01 – or a 108.5% return on your investment.
How To Get The Biggest Return On Your Syrups and Purees?
The key to making the most money out of every bottle of syrup or puree is to use consistent servings.
Self-pouring may cut a few seconds off your total prep time, but making the effort to stick to consistent serving sizes will ultimately save and make you money.
Pairing the bottles of Monin syrup with the matching syrup pumps will make sure you’re always working with the same serving size. Similarly, try using measuring spoon sets or jiggers with your cocktail purees for a more precise result.
The profit you stand to make will change significantly depending on how much you use per serving. The amount you charge your customers for each serving will also drastically affect your final profit.
It can be tempting to price highly and generate maximum profit. But a drink that’s too expensive will do nothing more than drive customers away. Using too small a serving may also leave the taste of your drinks lacking. This can give customers the impression they’re not getting great value for their money.
Experiment with both your serving sizes and drink pricing. This will help you find the perfect balance of a drink that tastes delicious, is competitively priced and still gives a great return on your investment.

With the price of a coffee syrup shot ranging anywhere from 30p – 70p, you’ll find these bottles can quickly pay for themselves.
How To Use Coffee Syrup:
Monin coffee syrups should be used with a matching syrup pump. Each pump delivers a 10ml dosage of syrup, giving you complete control over how much you use. This makes it easy for you to follow our formula and get the biggest return on each investment.
First dispense the syrup into your cup or glass. Then add your freshly prepared milk, and finally pour in your espresso.
How Much Monin Syrup Should I Use In Coffee?
While there’s no set amount of Monin syrup you should use in your coffees, we recommend two pumps (20ml) for every 8oz of drink. So if you’re adding syrup to a 12oz coffee you would need three pumps – or four pumps for a 16oz coffee.
