How To Use a Spiralizer
Spiralizing vegetables is a quick and simple way to create healthy alternatives to pasta and noodles that look great on the plate and are packed with flavour. With people becoming more health conscious every day, it’s important to keep up with the latest trends to get those customers coming back for more, so get spiralizing. From courgetti to sweet potato rice, you can have fun with this exciting addition to your kitchen. Here’s our step-by-step guide on how your spiralizer works, we’ve used a Vogue spiralizer but these guidelines also apply to other models.
Step 1
Place the suction cup feet onto the designated places on the bottom of the spiralizer and once fixed, press down firmly onto your clean kitchen surface. This will keep the spiralizer in place and make it easier to turn the handle.
Step 2
Select the blade that you would like to use. There are three blades that produce varying sizes of ribbons, and the smaller the ribbons the faster they will cook. Put your chosen blade in the slot provided on the machine, being careful not to touch the sharp edge.
Step 3
Place a bowl under the end of the spiralizer below the blade, to catch your vegetable ribbons as they come out of the machine.
Step 4
Cut a flat surface on your vegetable if needed to fix onto the spiked end of the handle of the spiralizer. This will help you keep the vegetable firmly fixed once you start to turn the handle.
Step 5
Once your vegetable is fixed on, you’re ready to spiralize. Pushing the vegetable towards the blade slightly, turn the handle continuously and watch the ribbons begin to come through into the bowl. You can carry on turning the handle until you can’t get any more ribbons from your vegetable. Continue until you have the quantity desired.
Step 6
Remove any ribbons left on the spiralizer and place these into your bowl. Remove the vegetable end from the handle, and carefully take out the blade. Clean all parts ready for future use.
Top Tip
You can turn your spiralized ribbons into rice using a food processor. Sweet potato is a great vegetable to use for this. Once you have the ribbons, pop them into the food processor and pulse until you have rice grain sized pieces. Great for use as a healthier alternative to rice.
