What is a Potato Rumbler?

Commercial Electric Potato Peeler

A Potato Rumbler is an industrial grade electric potato peeler, an essential time saving appliance for professional kitchens. Designed to quickly peel bulk quantities of potatoes ready for further prep, these powerful potato peelers are especially useful where chips, mash or roast potatoes are a important part of the menu, such as chip shops, specialist restaurants, schools and main production kitchens.

How Does a Potato Rumbler Work?

Potato rumblers work by rapidly spinning potatoes and water in a large abrasive-lined drum, a combination that quickly peels and washes the potatoes ready for cooking or further prep. Once the process is complete, simply open the chamber and peeled potatoes are dispensed into a Gastronorm Pan or other suitable receptacle using the handy chute. As an additional benefit, the process reduces the skins to very small particles, meaning they are just washed away. No more picking out potato peelings from sinks!

What's the Fastest Way to Peel Potatoes?

Peeling potatoes manually wastes a lot of time. Using a standard potato peeler, even the most experienced cooks and chefs would take around 20 seconds a potato on average - that's around 180 spuds an hour (27kg). With the standard 25kg catering bag of potatoes containing around 166 medium-size potatoes, a potato rumbler could peel and rinse the whole bag in minutes.

The selection of potato rumblers here at Nisbets starts from 35kg per hour outputs and go all the way up to 250kg per hour, meaning that even the smallest industrial potato peelers are faster and more productive than manual peeling. This graph demonstrates just how much time you could save every hour.

TIP: Combine a powerful potato rumbler with a commercial potato chipper and you can produce huge quantities of chipped potato ready to cook in minutes. Alternatively, a commercial vegetable prep machine could be used to save preparation time if you're planning to serve sautéed potatoes or hand-made crisps.
